Dr. Gail Weingast’s career path is anything but conventional, and that’s exactly what makes it so inspiring. Starting her academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Tufts University in 1969, medicine wasn’t always her primary focus. However, a profound shift in her ambitions led her to pursue a career in healthcare, and in 1976, she graduated from the Boston University School of Medicine with her MD.

Over the next decade, Dr. Weingast undertook rigorous training in pediatrics and radiology, earning her expertise through a series of internships, residencies, and a fellowship in ultrasound. By 1984, she had completed her post-graduate studies at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, cementing her place in the medical community.
Today, Dr. Weingast is a prominent figure at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she has served for over two decades. Her leadership as Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging has transformed the department into one of the top radiology units in the region. Her unique journey, marked by determination and adaptability, stands as a testament to her commitment to both patient care and medical excellence.
