The career journey that eventually turned Dr. Gail Weingast into a star radiologist with one of the most prominent hospitals in the country began rather inauspiciously in 1969, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, which she earned from Tufts University’s Jackson College. Obviously, medicine wasn’t at the top of her mind when she began her education. Despite that, however, she made up for lost time. By 1976 – just seven years later – she was Dr. Gail Weingast, MD, which she earned when she worked hard to complete her initial studies at the Boston University School of Medicine.
Of course, as is always the case for any doctor, the newly anointed Dr. Gail Weingast had a lot more to do, if she was going to make it in the medical community. She did a pediatrics internship, a pediatrics residency, a radiology residency and an ultrasound fellowship at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, all of which she completed by 1983 and finished her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver. After a few more years working in other hospitals in Colorado and New York, she landed at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she has transformed their radiology department into one of the best.
